RTI Influenced – A Tribute to Steve Jobs

I wrote this in November 2010, originally as copy for the first RTI website. The site has since moved on, and new copy has come and gone, but looking back now I realize the amount of influence Steve Jobs had on me, and OC Systems products. I thought it was fitting to capture this as a tribute to a truly great innovator. Continue reading

Why Did We Do RTI?

No one person can hold the entire architecture of a modern system in his/her head any more. Those days are gone forever. Systems are too complex. There are countless experts in each of these areas and once the problem is isolated to his/her area, only then can the problem be addressed. The question remains: how do you isolate the problem to a specific area in the first place? You use RTI, that’s how. RTI won’t solve every problem, but what it will do is help you understand what the heck is going on in your system.

Build Your Toolkit — the right tools for the right job

When you are faced with diagnosing a performance problem, it’s important to come prepared. A plumber doesn’t show up to fix your leaky faucet with an empty toolbox, and you shouldn’t expect to diagnose your application performance problems without the right tools either. The good news is that you don’t have to; in fact, there is no shortage of tools at your disposal, and the challenge is often to identify which ones belong in your toolkit and which ones you should leave at home.
Here’s a few of our favorites; we think maybe they should be yours as well:
