RTI is an agentless performance monitoring solution for enterprise web
applications. RTI monitors and diagnoses complex performance problems for
applications built on JBoss Middleware platforms, including Tomcat. RTI also
monitors end-user experience for Internet Explorer and Firefox web browsers, and
can be integrated with test automation platforms - LoadRunner and JMeter – to
provide deep-dive method level diagnostics in pre-production Performance and QA
environments.
RTI is composed of the following components (two required and one
optional):
-
RTI Enterprise Performance Collector [required] - Monitors and captures application performance data. Installed on each Linux or Windows platform or server where an application will be monitored.
-
RTI Console [required] - A Java thick-client application. RTI Console administers, gathers data from, and analyzes performance data collected by RTI Enterprise Collectors. Installed on one or more Linux, Mac or Windows desktops.
-
RTI JBoss Operations Network Plugins [optional] - Plugins used to integrate RTI into JBoss Operations Network (JBoss ON); only required when integration with RHQ or JBoss ON is planned. More detail on how RTI fits into a managed JBoss architecture is provided in Section 3.1, “How RTI Works with JBoss Operations Network” and in the JBoss ON (and RHQ) documents.
On each platform, RTI Enterprise Performance Collectors plug into the
monitored applications, collecting information about application workload and
performance. RTI groups collected data into business transactions, identifies
the poor performing transactions, and enables you to drill-into Transaction to
isolate bottlenecks at the method level.
When integrated with JBoss ON, RTI periodically collects and sends performance
data to the JBoss ON Server where it is available for Monitoring and Alerting
within the JBoss ON web interface.
When using RTI standalone, not integrated with JBoss ON, RTI collects and
stores data locally to the monitored application until it is requested by a user
for analysis.
